German Shepherd Virginia

German shepherd virginia clubs promote the developement of the GS dog by efforts of the breeders. Bred to be a herding dog, this breed gained the popularity quickly and was used as a police dog, guard dog, guide for disabled people and in many other ways. The founder of the breed was Cavalry Captain Max Von Stephanitz, who developed the breed through judicious inbreeding and crossbreeding, from 1899 to 1936. Adult dogs should weigh an average of 80-90 pounds for males, and 60-70 pounds for females. The standard calls for moderation, with dogs standing 26 inches tall for males and 24 inches tall for females (at the withers) despite the modern tendency to breed oversized dogs. To raise a dog with a stable temperament, it’s necessary to socialize a puppy in a variety of situations and surroundings since the early age. Daily exercises and training are necessary for every dog of this breed. Being very active, these dogs should not be left alone for a long time. These dogs make good companions for various kinds of people; they respond to their owners’ mood and enjoy serving their master. Some dogs of this breed are reported to have a sense of humor. Shyness and aggression are serious faults in this breed. German shepherd virginia clubs promote the developement of the GS dog by efforts of the breeders.
